Meet Dr. John Boateng.
For Dr. John Boateng, medicine has always meant making time for the person who needs help. He graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Medical School on a scholarship. With more than 40 years in medical practice, his career includes work at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Tafo Government Hospital. He began his private practice at Sepe Buokrom in 1995 and established Atasemanso Hospital in 2000.
His family remembers patients coming to his home for treatment, where he cared for them without charging and relied on his salary rather than asking them to pay. His small private practice in rented premises at Sepe Buokrom became another step towards a lasting home for that commitment to care.
As Founder and Chief Executive Officer, he combines clinical practice with leadership of the hospital. His approach places personal attention, compassion and a concern for affordability at the centre of the relationship between doctor and patient.
An important part of his founding vision was to support patients seeking care consistent with their personal and religious convictions, including those who decline blood transfusions. Respectful discussion of each patient’s needs and treatment preferences remains part of that commitment.
Working alongside Dr. Ama Serwaah Boateng, Dr. Kofi Boateng and the wider hospital team, he shares the experience of a career built around service. His mentorship connects the hospital’s beginnings with the people carrying its work forward today.
